What’s The Ideal Itinerary For A Catamaran Snorkeling Tour In Aruba?
Aruba is a beautiful island in the Caribbean known for its clear blue waters and fantastic sea life. If you’re visiting Aruba, a catamaran snorkeling tour is a must-do activity. That being said, it can be pretty overwhelming to create an itinerary.
To help jumpstart your adventure, we made a short guide that explores what a perfect day of snorkeling from a catamaran in Aruba might look like!
Morning Start
Your adventure typically begins early in the morning, around 9:00 AM. You’ll meet at a dock, usually in Palm Beach or Oranjestad, Aruba’s capital city. The tour guides will welcome you aboard the catamaran and give you a quick safety talk. They’ll also hand out snorkeling gear if you don’t have your own.
First Stop – Antilla Shipwreck
After sailing for about an hour, you’ll reach your first snorkeling spot, Antilla Shipwreck. Found in calm waters, the Antilla Shipwreck is the largest World War II wreck in the Caribbean and is home to tropical fish, lobsters, shrimp, and orange anemones.
The wreckage spans 400 feet and is pretty much intact, allowing snorkelers to explore the porthole, deck fitting, and other sections of the ship.
Second Stop – Boca Catalina
After exploring the Antilla shipwreck, we head out to Boca Catalina, a breathtaking location known for being home to a stunning reef system, sun-warmed rocks, and small patches of golden sand.
While the shoreline is undoubtedly a sight to behold, the real magic lies underneath the water’s surface where schools of tropical fish, including parrotfish and clownfish, dart in and out of coral formations. If you’re lucky, you could also spot green sea turtles!
Lunch Break and Return
All that swimming will make you hungry! Most catamaran snorkeling tours include a tasty lunch on the boat. You might get to try some local Aruban food, along with fresh fruits and cool drinks. Following lunch, your guide will bring you back to the shore.
What to Expect on the Catamaran
Catamarans used for these tours are usually big and comfortable. They often have cushioned areas for sitting or lying down, bathrooms, and a covered part if you need some shade. Some even have slides or diving boards for extra fun! The boat will have all the safety equipment needed, and the crew is trained to keep everyone safe.
To ensure a great experience, we recommend wearing sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the heat of the Caribbean sun. You can also bring a waterproof camera that you can use to take photos of the fish and corals.
